Delighted officials at an independent charity which helps people suffering from neck and head cancer are celebrating after a Christmas ball raised an incredible £50,000.
The Birmingham-based Get A-Head charitable trust says the Step Into Christmas ball – at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole – was a huge success both in terms of the money raised and the awareness it generated.
Chairman Tom Bromwich, founding partner of Coventry commercial property specialists Bromwich Hardy, said the ball had been a night to remember.
“We are absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity of everybody who attended and helped us raise this fantastic amount of money,” he said.
“It will help the charity do so much good work over the course of the next 12 months helping to improve quality of life for those patients who suffer from head and neck disease, support their carers, buy specialist equipment and fund research.”
Charity manager Louise John said the ball had featured star comedian Kerry Godliman – famous for appearances on hit TV shows such as Mock the Week and 8 Out of Ten Cats - magician Ben Hanlin and music from Gary Priestley and the Prime Time Orchestra and Coyote.
“There was plenty of fundraising on the evening – with opportunities for guests to take care of their Christmas shopping with £1,000 of John Lewis Vouchers up for grabs, and one lucky guest won a week’s holiday to the Lake District on our festive advent calendar game.
“Get A-Head really did Step in To Christmas with this year’s ball. The live music during dinner offered a festive soundtrack to the evening, Kerry Godliman entertained the room with her witty and relatable comedy and we certainly ended on a high with the Coyote party band taking us back to the 80s with some absolute classics.
“The evening generated over £50,000 in funds and the awareness this kind of event brings is priceless. A huge thank you to all who supported us.”
Earlier this year the charity, set up in 1994 and based on Warwick Road in Solihull, was shortlisted for the Outstanding Charity of the Year honour in the Solihull Chamber of Commerce awards.
